Re: zephyr shedding

I could be wrong but I don't think it is fiberglass fibers that shed from Twintex but little shards of polypropylene.... Twintex is an interwoven mixture of E-glass and polypropylene. It's the sharp and brittle E-glass that can cause problems. Polypro is flexible and mostly benign, small fibers of ...

Re: zephyr shedding

When I was at MKC years ago there was a paddler there who had a Zephyr. She wore a wetsuit and so she didn't notice the little fibers. Then she washed the wet suit with her clothes. The sharp little shards got into all of her clothes and she noticed that ...

Re: zephyr shedding

I could be wrong but I don't think it is fiberglass fibers that shed from Twintex but little shards of polypropylene. I suspect this only happens after the hull ages some, but it can be really obnoxious, much worse IMO that the typical "itch" one gets from sanding fiberglass. These tiny shards are l...

Re: zephyr shedding

Excited that the easiest solution was the one that worked! Thanks for sharing all of that info and the pictures.

Re: zephyr shedding

Buffing - I folded up the shirt and just rubbed the boat hard like waxing a car (wax on, wax off)

Paint - sprayed it from the can

Still holding up, but light use and I anticipate touching it up as needed.

Re: zephyr shedding

Resurrecting an old thread again! Today was the first time I noticed my Zephyr shedding. I was really itchy after loading/unloading. Scott, I'm curious- how is the buffing and painting holding up a year later? Also, for someone who is not very handy, exactly ...

Flotilla Update

... been a huge success swapping out as we went down stream. Less used, but still popular has been the NRS tandem Outlaw. My 14 year old GD went from Zephyr to Vertige as a more stable learning platform. I am saving the Zephyr for some Plateau rivers this Winter. My go to outfitters have been private ...

I should also mention that I'm willing to sell the Zephyr separately as well, if anyone is interested in one.

Thanks,

Joe

Re: Looking for solutions for reinforcing a Prelude's hull

Goop is amazingly tenacious - I have had it bond pretty well to PE. With a scuffed surface and the "contact cement" procedure, I'd be optimistic. It's holding in thigh strap anchors in my Twintex Zephyr.

Great point - I'm in Roanoke, VA. I'm willing to travel some to make this work, though... especially to places with good water

It might be helpful to include a location.

WTT - Zephyr for Pocket Canyon (or just WTB Pocket Canyon)

I've got a nice Esquif Zephyr that my knees won't really let me paddle. I've pretty much come to terms with the fact that I won't be doing too much OC1, so I'd like to move into a fun solo river-runner with an actual seat... namely, ...

Re: Esquif/Mike Yee Outfitting

The Zephyr I have was an early NOC demo and almost all of the anchors came out(2 each for air bags plus two lower thigh strap anchors) . These were kevlar (I think, been a long time) patches with loops that appeared to be epoxied ...

... own version, but it looks the same as on Mike's website. I first boat had Mike Yee outfitting, and I've paddled the VertigeX (tandem), Spark and Zephyr. The outfitting may look similar, but in my opinion, I much prefer the Mike Yee outfitting. Enough, that if it was a Royalex boat I'd order just ...
