Re: Fixing up an old Mohawk Scamp...

The perception saddle weighs about 9lbs so you can make it lighter by shedding it. From experience it will be a wet boat as a tandem. Still does good, you just have to dump it a lot. We made the elevator move at broken nose and then the micro eddy between the bottom drops on the Ocoee, then had to d...

Fixing up an old Mohawk Scamp...

Just wondering what the materials are in the hull (need to do some patchwork) and curious about the saddle setup: it has a Perception saddle installed...should I leave it or can I shed some weight by installing a foam setup? Would it still perform if a triple saddle setup were to be installed? Tryin...

Re: What New/Used boat

Compared to the Scamp any of the mentioned boats will be lighter. The Outrage will feel a little squirrelly at first but will be faster, dryer once you get used to it and much lighter.
Demo before buying if you can.

Re: Mohawk "Whitewater"

Do you mean a model specifically called the "Whitewater"? I've got an old Mohawk solo boat in the fleet that might be a "Whitewater", but it might also be a Scamp or a Rogue.

Mohawk Scamp

I change my Scamp to tandem. It was very wet but worked fine. On class 2 rivers like Hiwassee it did fine. We ran the Ocoee in it, combined weight 350# and would do fine for 100 yds then have to empty. We did successfully make the ...

This should be a great boat for your purposes. The kids will have a great time. I paddled a Scamp on the Tuck back in the early 90s. Very stable. Saw a Whitesell on the Ocoee while rafting with some friends this past weekend. Raft guide never heard of it. Whiitesell was ...

To enlarge on some of my prev. comments: I also had a Scamp, around the same time I bought the composite Piranha. The composite model was MUCH superior. I think Clipper tweaked the hull a little. Regardless, the composite hull (Kevlar-Duraflex) is still ...

I have a Mohawk Scamp that I was told was a very simular (if not the same) design for the Whitesell Piranha. It was a third hand boat to me and was first used by me to race down river when my son 10 or so. I also found it to be a ...

... I'm somewhat "mature", so here's an extra strategy I'm using. I used to paddle bigger, more stable boats back in the late 80's (Whitesell, Mohawk Scamp and Rogue) and could sit on the back of a Perception saddle in calmer water on pool/drop rivers. The stability of these boats gave me the opportunity ...

The AW Deerfield Fest at the end of july last year had two kayak vendors, and only 1 used mohawk scamp at a booth. The class 2 section of the river was mobbed with kayakers, looked like a couple hundred to me. The Dryway cl 3-4 section had maybe 6-10 open boats on it. There ...
