Re: Knee pain and boat choice.

Do it! It was more important in the Prelude and Fly-series boats, where additional knee spread increased stability, but increasing spread is one of the most important parts of adjusting a bulkhead. I think a bulkhead is the most comfortable outfitting, but it takes a lot of customization to get it t...

Re: Tow tether suggestions.

I really dislike bungee-type tethers. I'm pretty skeptical about attaching myself to gear in general. I have gone to using 10 feet of half-inch tubular webbing, tied to the ring and carabiner with water knots. That gives me ~8 feet of tether that can be used for towing, for self-belaying to a fixed ...

Re: Trying to control a solo canoe

Do not give up. You live in one of the best places in the world to paddle a stumpy creek canoe. If you are up for the school of hard knocks, get on Facebook and find the GDI. The "core" of that group is in Chattanooga and east TN. They do a lot of open boating in the Smokies and will always welcome ...

Re: shorten my paddle

For what it's worth, I've found the epoxy used by Werner to be a great deal stronger and more heat-resistant than their new plastic t-grips. I haven't gotten one out intact.

Re: bike canoe cart?

I don't have any firsthand experience with the Paddleboy trailer, but I have spent enough time around bike trailers to think that it's a pretty good compromise. The key component in determining a trailer's maximum weight capacity is the hitch assembly. The Paddleboy, like all trailers in its price r...

Re: bike canoe cart?

I have been playing around with this idea for some time. While I have several ideas for home-brewed trailers, unless I had access to a lot of scrap metal and old bicycle parts for free, it would be hard to beat the Seattle Sports Paddleboy Go! Cart on cost or performance. I wish I had gotten this pr...

Re: Hand Roll

Start with hand paddles. I have only been able to hand roll an OC using three separate hand strokes. What I envision is starting perpendicular to the hull for maximum leverage to start the boat rolling, and swimming my torso forward towards the hull so that I can get back in. Breaking it down: - Flo...

Re: Boat of the Week - Dagger Aftershock

A little less Aftershock footage than I remember (and a good deal more Superfly footage) but 8:35 is still a classic moment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwsAYPOjkrM Georgia Tech still owns a purple Aftershock marked demo. I spent too many hours reoutfitting it in 2012, and too few paddling it. Th...

Re: Retirement Boat. Suggestions?

Based on my read of the original post, I might go different direction. If he's only paddled traditional canoes, I wouldn't immediately put him in something that's going to demand a lot of edge control and cab-forward strokes. There are traditional boats that handle Class III pretty well. Maybe put h...

Wait, wait wait - who from Arlington paddles a L'edge?

Jon Walsh, happy to meet you. Likewise an Arlington resident. Paddling short plastic canoes locally and getting strange looks for it since 2002.
