Re: Dagger Dimension Tandem Trim

I think what you need are two pics, of the two of you, in a pond. Both side views. One with the loaded boat floating still, the other with the boat up to speed.

Re: Newbie outfitting questions for Mohawk XL 13

My 2 cents. If you are a really tall beginner, you will want a paddle not-over 57". Really short beginners won't want anything shorter than 50". If you have a disposable raft paddle...most are easy to cut down to canoe length. For a paddler with a 200 boat...new float bags are crazy expensive. Keep ...

Re: New Rigging?

my body would appreciate more comfort if there is such a thing. What part of you is uncomfortable? For me, on multi-day trips with long days in the boat (either decked or open), I take a 3.5"-thick block of minicel which I sit on (on top of my pedestal) for the flats and easier whitewater sections....

Holes crop.jpg

Here is my small and light-weight Carlisle blade. Physics can tell one how much those holes alter strength and water-resistance...but, there is no predicting whether kids will tolerate such an oddity.

Re: Long Lost C-Boater wondering: what to paddle?

I've had this dream for years that may be unattainable unless I decide to make a mold myself—which is to have a classic long slalom boat design (like the Zealot or Fanatic), except scaled up in every dimension to fit a 220lb paddler like the original boats fit 170lb paddlers. A couple points no one...

Re: Learner Boat--Advice most appreciated

My prediction: if the Outrage is too big and heavy...the same will be true for the Ocoee and Ovation. Maybe, more so.

How did you like the stability, spin, and speed of the Zephyr? How do want the new boat to differ from the Zephyr?

Re: Advice on patch job

Is that a plastic-welding job, or what? Done by something of a professional...or, Billy-Bob with a soldering iron and a milk jug?

Probably a pretty old boat...I think age makes patches more sketch. I would say, the patch, in the best case, should reduce the price of the boat noticeably.

Re: Under rated boats...

How about an under-acknowledged boat? I believe if one could do a design DNA test on all North American hard-chined, asymetrical-rockered, C-1 and OC1 hull shapes...there would be lots of Max II DNA in them. The designers of the Frachella Viper, Twister, and Defiant will flat-out tell you they snagg...

And, one should not forget, Kruger and Landick paddled up the grand canyon.

Re: Self Support canoe trip on the GRAND?

Yes, they ran everything. Partly, because they did not bring the all-terrain backcountry 10-ton crane required to pick up one of those boats. They put in somewhere way upstream...like, Glenwood Springs, CO. So, they did manage some big front-country portages. I have to think there have been others. ...

Oh yes....the old commerical-paddle-raft-line-in-an-OC2 trick. Works every time.

Re: Self Support canoe trip on the GRAND?

As you probably know, a number of people have done solo OC-1 self-supported runs. I know of a group which ran three Old Town Trippers, self-supported. But, they added hard decks to the boats...making them into ginormous, crazy-heavy, un-rollable C-2s. I have given an OC-2 run some thought. I have co...

Re: Long Boating

Jim, I have paddled the Dead plenty of times, and I, too, can't remember what's up next on that river. A number of my C-1s have had machines (foam, aluminum, or glass), and getting back down into the machines, after removing the add-a-block may be quicker than with straps. Of course, machines are ne...
