Re: Icon, Idol, or Meridian dry suit?

The Meridian is designed for use with skirt (it has an adjustable overskirt). So, you might be paying extra from a feature you don't need. The Gore-tex® Front Entry Dry Suit (a.k.a. Gore-tex GFR) is my favorite. It is the same as the Meridian but without the overskirt which saves you about $125 msrp...

Re: General Canoeing Technique Advice

It's not the length of the stroke. It's the paddle position at the beginning, middle, and end. Absolutely Bob. I could not agree more. Your technique is a perfect example of what I would consider a "short" quick stroke. But you are doing much more than just a forward stroke. I think your video show...

Re: General Canoeing Technique Advice

Just this past weekend I got a piece of advice from a kind young woman who suggested I shorten my stroke and make it quicker. Her reasoning is that each stroke would require less of a corrective [rudder] at the end which would result in more speed. Can anyone elaborate? A shorter forward stroke wil...

Re: Baby Falls

Also, as an aside, how do you get the nice nested quotes? When I use the quote button I get what you see here One of the Admins might know better but my guess is that you have BBCode disabled. There are several options just below the window you type messages in. The first is Disable BBCode . You ca...

Re: Baby Falls

Someone should post a video where someone changes the attitude of their canoe by lifting with their knees. also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ik-RQZMuFZ8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; at about 3:10 I say that shows it quite well! What a sweet set of runs. (Which the smilies indica...

Re: Baby Falls

dudes, with such an interesting thread how is a cartoonist supposed to get any artwork done:) ... but the attitude of the boat is affected a lot more by;angle of boat to the lip, stroke and speed...in that order. Paul, I would appreciate hearing about how 'angle of boat to lip' affects the boof. Pl...

Well... leaning back in a Spark tends to matter quite a lot.
Been there. Done that. Nearly perfect pencil.

Re: Baby Falls

+1 On Hank's comment. Another way to say the same thing: Visualize bringing your knees up to your chest like you're doing a cannonball jump off the falls. The paddle planted in the lip gives you something to pull against for the knee raise. I think that having your body in more or less a normal seat...

SOLD - Robson Finkenmeister

In very good condition. Little used by me as it's to fast for an old man's reflexes. Includes skirt and a couple flotation bags. I added a lap belt which could easily be removed if you're not into that sort of thing. $400 or best offer. I'll be at ALF and could deliver it to the lucky new owner ther...

Jay,

I know at least one guy from Saskatoon that is planning on Alf 2014. He drove down last year, and I'm guessing that's his plan this year too. Not sure he watches this fourm so I will pass him your contact info if you like. PM me with an email if interested.

Re: Whithewater tripping solo canoe

Mohawk as several boats to consider too. I went from a Rival to a 12' Probe and was very happy with the performance and capacity on several several whitewater trips. (A couple of them with "Paddle Power", a.k.a. Brian.) For something slightly sportier, the Mohawk Viper should be considered too. It i...

Re: Ok, my turn to ask for OC roll help

Nice! That's a whole lot better. The setup is much improved and you're keeping your head down nicely. I still think you would benefit by lifting the t-grip elbow out past the gunwhale. You're tucking that elbow next to your side. It looks to me like your "stall point" is happening when the t-grip el...
