Re: Saddle height too high?

I needed about 6" seat in my old slalom boat, but got straight into the new one at 4" with no problem at all. The difference is the width of the cockpit (and hull) - I am able to spread my lower legs further apart in the new boat which means I can sit much lower before my ankles take the same levels...

Re: PFD types and rolling

Out of interest, did you try lengthening the front straps on the Green Jacket to spread the foam right down your torso? Of all the designs I could find and try in the UK it had the least bulk of foam up front when adjusted that way, with pocket empty. I do use my Sandiline most of the time though. W...

Re: Need a new PFD

Check out the Astral Green Jacket and Sea Wolf - they are basically the same, but the Sea Wolf comes without chest harness (can be retrofitted). What I like is that although there is a front pocket, it has less bulk than most modern river running BAs and when you are kneeling you can adjust the fron...

Re: Suggestions for Slalom C1 and C2

As I explained in the another thread I wasn't able to try very many C1's, but compared to a Maverick of approx '96 vintage, my iScream is a lot more forgiving. The rule changes were primarily to suit races in artificial courses which are getting narrower and narrower to get the biggest features from...

Re: Slalom C1 Comparison? Vajda MM Max, One, iScream

I can only compare an old Maverick with my new iScream, and bear in mind that I weigh about 115kg at present so have an XXL iScream, whilst the Maverick would have been cut for less than 80kg (it wasn't a +). The Maverick was a nightmare in almost every respect, it's also a 4m design. The iScream do...

Re: New Boat Feedback

Not sure about US distribution, but Silverbirch have the aluminium moulds for the Covert up and running and have been in production for a few months now. Hou (who will be manufacturing and distributing the Big Dog designed Dropzone) have been using a GRP mould for final prototypes that some of you h...

Sounds like a job for a couple of cheap plastic chopping boards....

Would be a shame to add a lot of weight to a Blink....

Re: Blackfly Canoe demos out west - where should we go?

The Condor won't be ready for production by May. The corporate retreat is actually so that we can do some R&D testing on oar frames and slicy boats (we'll be pushing rubber and getting vertical as much as canoeing) No plans to leave boats in Flag but that could always change Ah well, have fun. I lo...

Re: Blackfly Canoe demos out west - where should we go?

Hey guys, Just checking back in with you guys about where and when you'd like to see some demos. Here is a rough itinerary (still subject to change) ..... May 27-June 12 - Blackfly Corporate Retreat in the Grand Canyon ...... Does this mean the grand canyon boat is going to be ready by the end of M...

Re: Question for Blackfly Option Owners

I'm usually around 245 at the moment, maybe more (aiming for 220) and it seems to work OK for me. I don't know if it would be faster if I was lighter, but I am able to keep it drier than my Ocoee. Only real problem I have is that I haven't mastered rolling it yet, but that's down to incompetence not...

Re: Slalom C1 for heavy paddler & relative beginner (in slal

I guess I should follow up.... The iScream XXL has been fantastic. It is really quite stable and has given me a lot of confidence. I raced it from August to the end of the season, being an experienced boater I successfully applied to start in division 3 (this is in the UK, I understand we are the on...

Re: Homemade OC1, Stability Issues

OK, what you have is typical of many barges, and even catamarans. The completely flat hull sits nice and flat on flat water and it takes considerable effort (heeling moment) to make it heel, up to a certain point. In a catamaran the point is when one of the hulls lifts off the water, with a flat/bar...

The heat gun trick worked on the dents in my iScream, just need to do some gel coat repairs now.

Re: Deformation in a Kevlar hull

I also got the heat gun tip for removing some gouges on the bottom of my slalom boat yesterday (direct from the supplier) - it looks as though the skin is still intact (some gel is going to chip for sure) and just the core has compressed. Worth noting that the tip was specific to that make of boat, ...

Re: Help, my boat has RoyaLeprosy!

Don't use paint, talk to your epoxy supplier about pigment for epoxy - it will seem like you get very little for a lot of money, but you will find you need very very little to colour up some resin. thickening the resin with silica first would also be a good idea.
