Re: "Where We Canoe" Episode 1

That was well done. A local run like that can become intimate. Thanks for sharing!

Re: New Air Bags

I gotta say I was never a big fan of the air bag nozzle, they would flap around when on top of car, and end up tearing. After getting into pyranha's, and using their bags, I liked the single hole much better. Simply unscrew to deflate, or unscrew and blow air in to inflate. Does this not work with M...

Random Asheville OC1 related find

Located at the pawnshop in downtown Asheville. Looks like a piece of whitewater canoe history.

Millbrook Canoe (Wanted)

I am looking for an older, cheaper Millbrook open canoe in the Asheville NC area. The Defiant and Hooter in the for sale section look great, just too far away. If you have anything, let me know!

Re: Curved versus Flat Blade

I use both flat and spoon blade paddles. One benefit of the spoon blade is that it feels to like the true J stroke is more effective at the end of the stroke.

I agree that the flat blade feels a bit easier on the shoulders.

Re: Astral Footwear?

I use the NRS desperado. Definitely substantial enough for rescue. But flexible for cboat foot contortions.

Re: Astral Footwear?

I have a pair of porters. I don't wear them for boating, but think i probably could. I personally like shoes without a substantial sole for canoeing. The porters are the lightest, most comfortable summer shoes I've owned. I wear them all the time, and am going on my second summer. Holding up great.

Re: How do you brace your feet

For C1, I get as low as possible, and have a good strap system up high, like Matt said. I never had to "brace" or lock my feet in. I could actually roll really well in a C1. This also allows you to slide your feet around to prevent numbness. My feet in C1 are always flat on the bottom of the hull. S...

Re: Source for skirts for Cascade

FWIW- I had both Snap Dragon, and Mountain Surf skirts for Cascades when I was into those boats. The mountain surf seemed more durable. Like others said, these companies probably know how to make them, and will custom order for you.

Re: Wet Suit Anyone?

For open boating, I find a good farmer john a nice addition and alternate choice to a dry suit. Think warm temps, cold water, open boat. For example, if i ever go to the Nantahala in the summer, i wear my farmer john. When i paddled a lot before having young kids, I would wear the dry suit throughou...
