Re: Shortening an H2O C1 Paddle

I guess I'm lazy and/or not fussy, but I've never cleaned a cut-off insert out of a paddle shaft to shorten it by 1". I either live with the 58", or find the bottom of t-grip insert and shorten it that much, which might down to a 56". Maybe you'll like a 56"!? The alternative is to keep buying paddl...

Re: What are you nifty water bottle carrier setups for a small solo canoe with bulkhead?

It's engrained in me from my old canoe club not to have anything hang down past the gunwales when your boat is turned upside down (so that no gear would get in the way of a canoe-over-canoe rescue), so I prefer to find ways to secure things to the hull or saddle and not to clip too much to the bag c...

Re: What are you nifty water bottle carrier setups for a small solo canoe with bulkhead?

Hi Rick, With the xc skiing drawing to close the other week, I was just about to get the SuperLite back to the pool,... and then COVID-19. Need to continue figuring some tweaks to the outfittng. The roll was coming a bit a last time after a few misses, I need to be more aggressive with both my hip s...

Re: What are you nifty water bottle carrier setups for a small solo canoe with bulkhead?

I guess the trick is to find something that makes a hole the same diameter as whatever liner/tube you find, or to have a liner/tube that itself is stiff enough to cut the hole through the bulkhead. Oh yeah, I have to move my pump over too. Haven't thought about that yet. Shoulda just bought it with ...

Re: What are you nifty water bottle carrier setups for a small solo canoe with bulkhead?

I think I managed to follow that, thanks. At front of your bulkhead you've got a biner on a loop of rope that is on a stopper knot in the transfer tube through your saddle. Right? I don't think my original drainage tube has a pipe insert, I'll double-check. Also, I've added other transfer tubes, so ...

Re: L'edge Superlite

Just curious, any updates on durability etc. from those who have been paddling SuperLites for a few seasons now?

Re: L'Edge Superlight Outfitting

My first reaction to my SuperLite outfitting was how giant the bulkhead and saddle were! Actually, 2nd reaction - 1st was disappointment that the gunwales hadn't been sanded and oiled. 3rd was that there was only 1 transfer tube (just a hole/tube, no liner pipe in it). I moved in the thwarts and cut...

Re: What are you nifty water bottle carrier setups for a small solo canoe with bulkhead?

Great, I have the same question! After much hemming & hawing, I finally made the transition to a modern, shorter, plastic boat (moving from an Outrage and Ocoee to a L'Edge SuperLite). Did my first run this past weekend. It's early days in this relationship with my new boat, but suffice to say that ...

Re: C1 Conversion and recommended "Paddler Weight"- Need Advice!

Where are you?

Maybe you'll be surprised and find some local. Won't know unless you ask!

There's a Redline in Winnipeg that I'd be happy to have someone try (or buy).

Re: C1 Conversion and recommended "Paddler Weight"- Need Advice!

I've suffered in some C-1s that were too small for me (or else I just don't like C-1ing, that could be it too!). So, my advice/bias is to go bigger.

Personally, I'd take a look at that width of the 8.5, I'd consider 25.5" to be too narrow, and I'd quickly move on.

Re: Comparing new OC-1 solos for 200+lbs

As appealing as the 20/20 looks, and as much as I'd enjoy flying around in a 27 lbs hull, the shipping logistics & costs put me back to what I could demo and what I could buy locally. Ultimately I went with the Esquif L'Edge Lite. I feel like the Lite was a fair bit more responsive to paddle than th...

Re: Help

The details will depend on what you want it to do, and how often you paddle. If you stick with it, especially if you paddle it lots, you'll undoutedly get a better feel for it and swim less. Maybe you can play with the outfitting too, but the solution is likely lots of time on the water, and a good ...

Re: Comparing new OC-1 solos for 200+lbs

With the rivers now thawed, I'm getting back to this. Thanks for all the posts/updates. I just had a chance to see a Covert 9.3 and Condor in-person. Covert appealed to me more than expected. Condor looked surprisingly Octane-like. Didn't get the chance to get them on water, just grass. Considering ...

Maybe not ideal in terms of boats or locations, but close enough?

If you can find an Old Town H2Pro, that seems to make a nice little tandem for use with a kid!

Good luck Rick. If I was still on the coast you could have my Redline, but that doesn't help you now. Cool to hear you're active in instruction and out there building community as always!

Cheers, Pat.
