Option boating in AZ

Hello fellow paddlers, I got an Option a few months ago and Arizona finally has some water flowing so I got my first decent on some good water. Any constructive critiques on my lack of paddling technique would be appreciated. I have a question on running wave trains because I was taking on more wate...

Re: Those who put feet under the pegs, how do you stay in?

I just got a new Option and had the track raised so there would be 4 1/2 inches between the hull and the foot brace. I can get more of my foot under the brace and stay in much easier. I did and ankle blocks, they help a lot for comfort. I also added ankle blocks on the front side of the saddle just ...

Re: Mohawk Maxim for sale

Tobin, I would consider that but the boat is escrow now, someone in California wants to buy it. If the deal falls through I will let you know. I did buy a Blackfly option and it is a sweet boat. I took it on it's maiden voyage down Tonto yesterday and had a blast. Let me know next time you run the V...

Re: critique my roll?

Here is my latest video. https://vimeo.com/58329050" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; After reading through all the advice on this topic, I can now roll with the front or back of my blade, but I prefer the back. My roll still needs some work, I think it could be more fluid. Any other ad...

Re: critique my roll?

The boat makes a huge difference. It took me for ever to roll the maxim and it was never very accurate or reliable. I was never able to land a combat roll in it. I got in a viper 11 with really old outfitting and inadequate air bags and it rolled with very little effort. I now have an Option and I f...

Re: viper 11 vs option

Mostly class III rivers but low water a majority of the time(200-500 cfs). It is still 80 degrees here in AZ and I can't remember the last time it rained so not much is flowing. There is a small travertine stream 1 1/2 hours away with only a base flow of 67 cfs which is supposed to be a blast in a h...

viper 11 vs option

I am in the market for a new boat but I do have any other boats locally to try. I have a Maxim right now but would like something with more stability(I have my swims down :D ). I am considering an option because I want a short plastic boat. Next weekend I will have a chance to paddle a Viper 11. I a...

Re: foot brace question

I shaved off a good half inch of my brace so more of my foot could slide under it and it did wonders for my roll. I have been working on it for a while and it was never close to being reliable (sometimes I could not even roll once) and I just rolled 19 times in a row! (my last record was 4  ) ...

foot brace question

I have yakama foot braces in my canoe and it is most comfortable if I slide my toes under the braces (the top of my foot is flat on the bottom of the boat). Is there any problems with trimming 1/4-1/2 inch off the bottom of the foot brace so I can get more of my foot under the brace? Any advice woul...

Re: Grand Canyon trip spots open 7/13 to 8/1

Do you have your oarsmen lined up? I oared the Grand last year for the first time and have a permit for 2013. I also have my own 14" SB but with that comes a greater chance of flipping. I am not sure I could get the time off work but let me know if your interested.
