Re: Suggestions on solo whitewater playboat for heavy guy

In your shoes, I'd seriously try to demo a Silver Birch Agent 88 and if it feels too small, go Octane 91. WHY? Have quite a few miles on Octane 91, Ledge and Silver Birch Agent 88 and Condor. Of them, the 88 would my go-to suggestion for OC-1 playboating. Spins, boofs, surfs, pretty predictable in a...

Re: Outrage X new 700.00

Wow! Gotta say when I first looked at the 2nd photo, your hand was so bright in the pic that it looked like a giant hole. And the scratches behind are a different boat, right?

In praise of the Blackfly Condor

OK, feeling a bit guilty here. 'Been meaning to post something on the Condor for a couple of months now. I don't own a Condor and don't actually own any Blackfly boats at present and no, don't get paid anything from any-boat-body. Moving on, gotta say, the Condor is a stellar design that really need...

Re: Buying Advice

Hey Tony--- I'm 6'-1" and 185~190lbs. I'm quite tall from the waist up and have short legs. I've owned the Shacho and loved it but am liking the 2020 more for my proportions. That said, it feels like if anything, I'm on the light/ short side for the 2020. You would love the Shacho I'd have to guess....

Re: Esquif Ledge vs Silverbirch Agent 8.8

Have the Agent 88, love it, had two L Edge lites and loved them. Plastic seems similar enough that if you wore out the L Edge, you probably won't get much different mileage out of the Agent. I will say this though, after a year of paddling, the Agent is all scraped up but still has that new-boat, sl...

Re: Esquif Zephyr XL

Sorry to hear about your clipper-- that really hurts! As for the 20/20, I'll definitely report back. The 20/20 is intended to be the fast boat for fluffy water while the Agent 88/ Octane 91 will continue to be for boofs and bashing, short and long trips respectively. Having a quiver means *mostly* d...

Re: Esquif Zephyr XL

I'm right there with ya-- both regular and xl Zephyr look really tempting, but maybe harder to find than another used Viper, not sure. 'Have to think both these Zephyrs may be a bit dryer and a bit slower than the Viper 12, so like a wider Viper 11? Could be great! In that same vein, a new glass Vip...

Re: What are you nifty water bottle carrier setups for a small solo canoe with bulkhead?

A buddy just carries a small hydration pack over his PFD, with a normal hiking tube hanging over his shoulder-- and he swears by it. At my end, ever since switching to bulkhead saddles -- Ledge lite x2, Octane, Option, and now Agent 88, I've anchored a Nalgene "Cantene" water bladder just stern of t...

T-Formex Esquif Zephyr

Anybody have a Zephyr in the Washington/ Oregon/ lower BC area I could maybe demo? It has always looked like a good design to my eyes and with T-Formex it's pretty tempting for a medium-length WW boat. No hurries/ no worries

Re: Looking for Option, Agent 88, Ledge lite on West Coast

Greetings-- have an Option up in Bellingham. Newest version, first owner, purchased in fall of 2017, purple. Getting ready to put it up for sale. PM me your cell and I'll send you phone pics. Boat is in great shape--verdict is it's too small for me so I paddle the Octane and Agent 88 much more. Aski...

Re: did Dagger steam bend Ocoee gunwales?

Just a thought-- for furniture and wooden boat parts in general, useful steam bending requires air-dried wood, not kiln dried. Of course 99% of wood you buy is gonna be kiln dried. Dagger might have been buying large-ish lots of green ash, milling it down to an inch or so, selecting the straight gra...
