Too much fun.

I got a few laps done in a MT Occoee this fall. Loved the boat, in spite of it spitting me out on a too quick cross bow. My bad, not the boats. The Montana Canoes are a great addition to the variety of designs and materials available to canoeists these days. Having paddled and sampled the market I w...

Re: The double-hull Prelude

Great thinking; outside the box, "inside the hull" !

I've rescued many a hull, with a variety of techniques, but your idea is original.
At 55 lbs you are in L'Edge Light weight range but... with more carve?

Re: C1 to OC1 or not

68 now. I have done lots of OC and gave C1'ing a good try but couldn't resolve the flexibility issue. I also enjoyed rafting but didn't want to pay for more gear and create another "basement' sport. So at 67 I took up K1. Sometime I'll paddle a K1 and a OC on back to back runs on the same rapid, jus...

Re: Silverbirch 10.5 thoughts

Thanks Wendy.
Did you paddle the 9.3 Covert ?
Some boat designs change a lot over one foot extra, just wondering about handling difference.
Speed over length and buoyancy over volume are givens, just wondering about carve and edge to edge roll rate and ?

Rigging a Zoom: seat (re) placement?

Two female friends (150 lbs?) both own Zooms. I have paddled a Zoom for several days, just not one of these particular hulls. One of my friends Zoom was brought over to my shop for modifications and before starting any changes I measured what exists and then, a little puzzled, I had the second Zoom ...

Use versus Abuse

If you paddle "too much" in your great boat and it eventually wears out, but you get better, you've made a good investment. I just sold a well worn Caption to a new couple, fully rigged and bagged but worn, for $500. My advice... paddle the crap out of this boat, do everything, drive it like you ren...

Good score

Good score for a first ww canoe. I would define it as a "transition boat", a good enough hull that as a newbie you are going to pound to pieces without crying over your $. New paddlers in too $ hulls struggle to develop, spending too much time and effort concerned about their investment. Your riggin...

Re: Paddle Tape ?

I also use splice tape to wrap any metal or sharp bits near floatation bags- switches, pump pipe clamps, thwart bolts, waterproofing electrical connections, zap strap sharps.
Kind of a papers 'duct tape".

East Coast Scale?

Thanks.
Interesting tour of the horizon.

Agree on the wood issue and continuous rapids; pumps are great, locally.

Re: Paddle Tape ?

Splicing tape. I use Splicing Tape, locally it is located next to the coloured electrical tape on the rack. It's original intended use is for wrapping large diameter electrical splices. It's qualities are that it is a stretchy rubber compound that when wrapped it "melds", that is, over time it bonds...

East Coast Scale?

East Coat scale/West scale? I have 'overheard' this comment once before from an eastern paddler visiting western rivers. I am looking at III-IV (East Coast scale  What is the difference? Is it grade, or is it definition of creek vs river, or ? I'm a hard up against the mountains and the Pacifi...

Open canoe roll revised technique

I got a roll, when I want to , but demo-ing an Option & Octane 85 back to back defeated me this summer. Your tips made sense to me so I'll dial them in when I get a rematch. Learning how to roll a kayak hull this winter tuned up my lazy canoe, just good enough, hip snap. Probably relates to yo...

Pumping out a L'edge Lite ride?

A friend has asked me to install a pump in her "new to her" L'edge Lite.

Can any one refer me to any images/posts of L'Edge pump set ups? I have installed pumps in royalex hulls (Tsunami 1200's) but working with plastic is new to me. What adhesive bonds best, if at all?

Thanks
