Re: voyageur nylon-urethane split seam repair

I think I know what you mean. Yes one time I fixed one like that. I started by glueing the seam back together with aquaseal. The used another piece of waterproof nylon (from an old dry bag I think), and folded that over top of the seam, about an inch past either side of the opening. Glued it on with...

Re: Training For Paddling & Common Paddling Injuries

A lot of potential injuries relate to being upside down (or sideways) - meaning staying vertical can play a big role in this. To that end, a couple of thoughts: -upper body strength is important, but lean strength is best. Too much weight above your gunnels means a higher centre of gravity which mea...

Re: Leaking float bag

I've had some success in the past (with a Mohawk bag, no less) by holding it up against a bright spotlight in an otherwise completely dark space. Any irregularities in the material really stood out.

well, they're not nearly as hard-core, but here are a couple videos that I've put together recently: A run on a creek near Ottawa called the Blanche: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQlZaVimtwM" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Mostly open-boaters, but also some quality kayaker carnage/b...

Re: Pumps

First off: I don't use a pump. I find they're a pain to set up, maintain, etc., and I have no problems jumping out of my boat to empty it out. I generally don't begrudge other people using them, except when it means extra time standing around at the put-in waiting for them to get their pump all set ...

Re: July 20-21 - Celebrating Women in WW - 7soeurs Festival

anyone have any intel on the upper gat. water level for this wk ends 7 sisters fest.? Yup - Bonnet Rouge's website shows 4.5 right now. Thats down from 6 earlier this week, and close to 15 a couple of weeks ago...so its been dropping quickly. I'd guess that it will stabilize around where it is now.

Moisie by NovaCraft

Hey, wondering if anybody has a boat report on the new Moisie tandem whitewater tripper by NovaCraft?

I've seen a couple of media reviews but I'd love to hear from the c-boats community, especially if somebody has been using one for a while and can comment on durability, etc.

Thanks!

I've been, and it was amazing!

What would help me go back? If Esprit could get me some more vacation time from my job!

Sorry I should have specified, I meant covers for the big dump valves.

I'll check out NRS.

Thanks for the feedback.

Re: Help Choosing my First WW Solo Canoe

a cut-down Zephyr might suit your needs (its light, dry, forgiving, tracks well, etc - a great all-round boat).

Also, it seems that small/light paddlers don't have nearly the issues with the Zoom's tippy-ness as the rest of us do, and they really appreciate its small size and light weight.

Valve-covers for air bags

I'm trying to fix up a bunch of old air bags for my canoe club...a recurring problem is broken off and missing valve covers. I've tried going to my local paddling store/outfitter to see if they could a) sell me new replacements; or b) sell me or give me old valve covers from their vast rental fleet....

This is good stuff - thanks everybody.

Any idea roughly how much McMaster-Carr charges for shipping? Its asking me for my credit card info before telling me that...since I'll be shipping to Canada, I want to make sure I'm not paying $20 shipipng for $2 worth of plastic rod...

Re: Which drysuit?

What will open boaters be wearing at that time? To be fair, it depends a lot on the weather - boaters with dry suits could still be wearing them if its a cool or wet day. But others (myself included) are happy to leave it at home, and get by with some combination of neoprene/rubber-fleece/paddling ...
