Re: How many Kevlar Sunbursts were made?
The Waterline boat was most likely a Seeker which was the original design by Fritz Orr. Could be raced solo or tandem. Steve Scarborough may have been involved in the design as well. I know he and Annie raced tandem in one. The Seeker went on to become the Sunburst. I first saw this canoe at the ...

Re: back when we didn't know any better...
Here is the end of my second day in a canoe and my first attempt at soloing. Notice Craig and I have not only the same taste in paddles but grips as well. This was taken 2/28/80 at the takeout of the North Fork of the White River in the Missouri Ozarks. I was with Bob Million in his 17A Blue Hole ...

Re: What next?
Both the Skeeter and Superfly were from fiberglass molds, (as were the first Sauvage Spanish Flys) basically two layers of 1 oz. mat and isothalic (tooling) polyester resin. The trick was to get uniform thickness. I can't remember how many Superflys we made but the Skeeter mold cooked over 200. I ...

That's one cool canoe! You're going to have to upgrade from that Norse just for aesthetics if nothing else. With all that blade surface on a Norse I'll bet you'll spend most of you paddling effort doing correction strokes.

Billy Keen died on Colorado's Blue River
:( Saw on BT that Billy Keen had died on the Blue River. Billy was a great OC-1 paddler and racer. He was one of Frankie Hubbard's closest friends back in the 80's and helped Frankie get his first designs going. http://i763.photobucket.com/albums/xx271/BrownDogBoats/boat%20stuff/canoe%20history ...

Spruces have a higher strength to weight ratio than any other softwoods. White spruce is used for masts, flagpoles and such.
Another hardwood not mentioned but common in thwarts and seats is cherry. It also has moderate rot resistance though not as much as walnut. It's one of my favorite woods to ...
