Cricket Designs makes very nice wood paddles in Salida Colorado and does repairs of paddles as well

I have a friend who paddles with a Cricket Designs paddle(Salida CO.). Really nice wood paddle and seems bomb proof-had it for years . $225 for standard and $250 for the lightend version

Kaz., how does the Rayge compare to the new Rhumba in terms of handling? The Rhumba is larger, but is there a noticeable difference? Turning 60 so need more of an oldxxx er.. mature boater's craft

That silicon tape is very durable. We use it for certain applications in airline maintainance and with hundreds of lives depending upon our work it has to work. Yes it can break, just after much bending and no shattering tendencies like plexiglas. Best thing about poly carb (lexan) is it is fairly cheap and easy to work with.

I made a set up like this and got the plastic at Lowes. Just show the pix to find what you need. As for the lexan, if you go that route it won't break only bend thats why it's used as bullet proof glass

It's been a long time since physics class, but if I remember red is a slower wave length so red would slow you down. A purple or violet boat would have a faster color. Didn't work the Vikings though

I don't like to use hacksaw blades because they gouge the boat with the set of the teeth. Found that a flush cut saw works great for removing foam as well as a flexibleputty knife. Flush cuts saws are at woodworking
stores or Lowes/ Home Depot and also make nice cuts in foam

The Rival is a good boat and will serve you well. I'm about your size and my Rival did a good job of getting a mid 50's rooky to a lll- paddler. There is lots of info about outfitting-- mike yee outfitting dot com and past threads here. Good to have a new paddler join the ranks
