River Stripper

Post by Mikey B »

Well, it's about ready to test out. It ended up being exactly 9' long, 29" wide at widest point, and 15 1/2" deep at center. It feels very lively testing it out on the lake! The secondary stability feels pretty good, so hopefully it behaves ok on the rivers.
Hopefully it'll last until I can save up for an open L'Edge! :D

No. That is a wood boat! :o

It looks really good. From the title of your post, though...I must admit I was expecting a little more skin... :D

What's the weight? You would have blown way more minds if you had left it in a natural wood finish!

It weighed 30 lbs before rails and outfitting. I have to weigh it again to see final weight.
Yeah, it would've been cool to be natural wood except I knocked the forms over before glassing and broke the boat in two...so I had to piece it back together or redo it from scratch. I thought I could salvage it, but in doing so, I had to fill in a few areas. So not so pretty :-?
Also, the bottom isn't quite as flat as I had intended. With all the humidity we've been having, and with the repairs, it wouldn't stay completely flat to the forms in the very bottom. With the ever slightly more rounded bottom and the hull being so stiff, it is very lively feeling. Not so bad as a Zoom, but the initial stability is lively, but the secondary feels quite good. But the proof will be in the pudding when I can get it on some actual WW :D
Hopefully it isn't too bad.

Well it weighs in just shy of 48 lbs. I did luck out in that it seems to roll super easy :D Now to give it a real world testing :)

Looks great ! Did you have to raid the Amazon forest to get that colorful figured wood?

Takes me way back to when Steve Scarborough raced his stripper Sunburst prototype, solo and tandem, on the Nantahala. I think he won the events....
