I need to install knee pads in my B-Fly. Recommedations? Sources?
Thanks!

My garage
...your beer.
I have 1/4" minicell sheets we can cut to size and glue in for you.
Can install in AM if your willing to swing by to pick me up for paddling Sat on Slip.
...or Friday night after work is also an option.
Let me know.

Al, Paul, Golden Monkey, sharp objects, and flammable contact cement.
This sounds to me like a tragedy in the making.

Re: Knee pad recommendations?
Not minicell - neoprene foam. Sweets has it. There are coozie's made of the same/similar material

Scott - have some of that too...but it doesn't hold up as well in the knee area IMHO. Particularly when banging down steeper stuff. It’s great at first but loses shape over the long haul. But one can do a two-fer… mini-cell base sheet with a neoprene over sheet. Nice but too much work for the payback… with just mini-cell working well enough on its own….Not to mention its more durable by itself!

Lay down a reasonably thick pad of minicell. Use Dragonskin, sandpaper, or a Surform tool to sculpt out a cup custom-shaped to fit your knee. Then glue the neoprene over it.PAC wrote:Scott - have some of that too...but it doesn't hold up as well in the knee area IMHO. Particularly when banging down steeper stuff. On my OCs, I use a bandsaw to cut the minicell contour, using two stacked and end-glued for a longer channel. These are actually held in the boat with Velcro strips for more adjustability.

Re: Knee pad recommendations?
I find the feel of neoprene foam to be much better - its "squishier", more resilient. The only time mine hasn't lasted very long is when I get sand on it - i've got several boats with neoprene pads that are over 5 years old. Even if it didn't last long for me, I'd stick with it and replace it more often. But... these are Al's knees...
