How do you read the serial number to know 1986?
Our mid '80's Starburst begins with SRA. Our friends Sunburst begins the same. He has a 17' OCA labeled 17A he told me last evening.

Re: The end of ESQUIF..... :(

... shops used to rent boats but they obviously don't rent Blackfly's. I'm also thinking about WW tripping -- I don't see any good replacement for the Starburst or Canyon that is currently in production. That's a big void in the market. As much as I like the Octane92, it is not a tripping boat. Lastly, ...

Re: Introducing the Next Generation to the Single Blade

... I hope to accumulate some sit on tops and Aire inflatables over the Winter. I would like to get a Black Fly tandem . We have a mid '80's Blue Hole Starburst in excellent condition that we can use. I'd like to go gradual with the c boats because of the spray skirt and tipping over concern. No use ...

Re: "Molly's Nipple", Slave River

That Starburst outfitting got me thinking about a tripping canoe with a centre saddle for ww and an off centre (aft) seat for the flats.

Re: Searching for the perfect tandem/solo, river/lake hybrid

Sounds like you're looking for a 16' prospector or the Pocket Canyon

The Starburst is a lotta boat. I'm on my second and wouldn't want to solo it.
The Millbrook AC/DC and ME look pretty sweet and probably the way to go if you're good with glass.

Re: Searching for the perfect tandem/solo, river/lake hybrid

For me, 17' would push it way out of the "jack of all trades" category where solo river running is on the list. Boats like the Starburst, Canyon, Appalachian, Freedom seem to fit the the bill, but personally I'd look at smaller versions, like the Pocket Canyon or an Old Town Cascade, ...

Searching for the perfect tandem/solo, river/lake hybrid

... 15.5-17' long and around 33" wide. For boats: the two designs I've come up with that seem to fit the bill are the Millbrook AC/DC and Evergreen Starburst. For outfitting: adjustable/removable saddles and adjustable thigh strap anchors (like the ones from NorthWater). I'd appreciate any feedback ...

Re: Help choosing a versatile canoe

... While not "fast" it is not hopelessly inefficient on flat water as many whitewater boats are. Another discontinued canoe is the Blue Hole Starburst, a whitewater tandem which is reasonable on flat water. Nova Craft canoe is currently producing a similar boat. the Moisie.

Re: Moisie by NovaCraft

Never paddled one but it will be a solid boat for river tripping. To echo what others have said I have also heard that the mold is made from a starburst... Which is an awesome boat.

Because of the extra height it should be very similar to a Canyon.

Can't go wrong.

Re: Moisie by NovaCraft

I have been using the Moisie's all season for tripping and teaching tandem whitewater. I am very pleased with them They are very close to the Starburst. A bit more rounded on the bottom and 2" deeper than the Starburst. These changes result in higher seats and a very dry boat. When the boat is ...

Re: Moisie by NovaCraft

No first hand experience with the boat but from what I've seen it appears to be copy of the Canyon, which is a copy of the Starburst.

Re: Would you ever...

Bought all three of my current canoes without having paddled any of them:

Evergreen Starburst
Mad River Caption
Esquif L'Edge

Of these three, the L'Edge has been most challenging for me as I had never paddled a short solo ww canoe prior to that purchase.
