Re: t-formex

My old Fiberlastic Phoenix Seewun was as easy to repair as composite but near as tough as poly. There are composite constructions that meet the tough and repairable criterion. I don't know why they are not more popular.

Re: Craiglist freebie!

I've coated the bottoms of two decked boats, a Phoenix Seewun and a Noah Magma kayak, with West 105/205. I followed West's recommendations on using foam rollers and applying several coats in close succession, so that later coats bonded to previous coats ...

Re: Boat of the Week - Perception Gyra Max

... I only paddled each one once. The Cascade was close to fishorm. The Gyramax needed more rocker, just behind the cockpit. (Same for my Phoenix Seewun, sort of similar to the GM but rounder, faster, and worse handling.)

... kayaks because the cockpit is quite large.) My first c-1 was a Hahn, and after wasting some time in a Sage, I bought a second hand Phoenix Seewun. It is a very swedeform boat. From the beginning, I noticed a tendency for the bow to bury and the stern to lift in rapids like Tablesaw. But ...

Re: What is the most difficult CBoat you've ever paddled?

I didn't realize it at the time but my Phoenix "Seewun" was fostering bad habits, failing to foster good ones.

Should've bought a Magnet.

Re: C-1 recommendations?

... those in the Slasher, Cascade, or Atom. Those cockpits were designed by lawyers. You want a cockpit just big enough for you. I paddled a Phoenix Seewun for a decade. It had a rather small cockpit, but it was tipped up at the front so entry and exit was easy. Having a just-big-enough cockpit meant ...

Older C1s and open canoe for sale

I have the following old (20+ years) boats for sale on Vermont Craigslist: Phoenix Seewun (I am pretty sure but not positive it is a Seewun) http://burlington.craigslist.org/boa/2909599492.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Super Batmax (again, not ...

Re: Ok, what's the fastest whitewater boat you've paddled?

... Some reports must be based on impressions rather than on measures that can be compared. But, that would take the fun out of it. My old Phoenix Seewun is a pretty fast boat, with its low rocker, elliptical cross section, and swedeform hull. Lousy on a slalom course, though. My Dagger Zealot ...

A hull doesn't need edges, doesn't need flatness, to have good initial stability. Borrow my old Phoenix Seewun sometime. No edges, very elliptical. So round, so firm, so easy on the draw. LSMFT.

My Hahn was made of many glass layers and one polypropylene layer, by Bill Crowley in Atlanta. It probably weighted about 50 pounds. My Phoenix Seewun or Slipper, which I called Phlipper, was in the "Fiberlastic" layup. The hull never broke, though I patched one small place where it delaminated. ...

But I've had trouble with some c-1s (Millbrook Wide Ride, Phoenix Seewun) where the cocpit puts my weight forward onto a narrow nose. My Zealot didn't do this. maybe because it is the only high rocker Zealot in existence. ...

How did the FG Phoenix c-1 get trimmed to 12 feet? They made the "Seewun," one of which I still own, and it is standard old slalom length, 13' 2".

The Seewun lacks rocker, but it is a fast cruising hull. Mine is the "Fiberlastic" layup, heavy as a Gyramax, but longer lasting.
